Recap: Liberty County Bulldogs vs. Vernon Yellowjackets
Even though the Liberty County Bulldogs have not done well against the Vernon Yellowjackets recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Liberty County enjoyed a cozy 61-47 victory over Vernon. Given Liberty County's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Vernon is ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Liberty County to victory were Gustavo Rubio and Kashon Chambers. Rubio scored 16 points, while Chambers scored 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Chambers has scored at least 25% of Liberty County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Walker, who scored 8 points.
The victory (which was Liberty County's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Vernon, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Liberty County will be playing in front of their home fans against Wakulla Christian School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Wakulla Christian School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday. As for Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against Cottondale at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cottondale and Vernon are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
