Football Recap: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Alhambra Lions
Sahuarita took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They breezed by the Alhambra Lions at home to the tune of 43-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2023.
Sahuarita found their leader in underclassman Rasheed Martin, who rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Raul Velez was in the mix too, providing Sahuarita with a fumble recovery touchdown touchdowns.
Sahuarita's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Johnny Machado and Alden Fox. Machado's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making a tackle and defending a pass in addition to snagging two interceptions.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sahuarita is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Deer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sahuarita is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Alhambra, they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Independence at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th.
