Softball Recap: South Warren Beats Scott County for Their Seventh Straight Victory

South Warren waltzed into their contest on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Scott County Cardinals. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

South Warren got a great performance from Courtney Norwood as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Norwood has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, South Warren let Kinleigh Russell and Parker Willoughby run wild. Russell got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Willoughby went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Willoughby has posted since back in March. Jenna Lindsey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

South Warren lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in seven consecutive games.

South Warren pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Scott County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-4.

South Warren didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Great Crossing on the 26th. As for Scott County, they will take on Tates Creek at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
