Baseball Recap: Prairie Central Comes Up Short

Prairie Central extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They fell 3-0 to the Tolono Unity Rockets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Collin Hartman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

As for Tolono Unity, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Tolono Unity's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tre Hoggard, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Hoggard a new career-high.

Prairie Central has already played their next game, a 13-3 loss against Paxton-Buckley-Loda on the 28th. As for Tolono Unity, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-3 defeat against St. Anthony on the 29th.
