Baseball Recap: Hammond Central Falls Short of Hammond Morton in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hammond Central can now relate to. They fell just short of the Hammond Morton Governors by a score of 19-18 on Thursday. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Governors recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Jansel Savinon and Juan Magallanes did some serious damage despite the final result: Savinon went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Magallanes got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Hammond Central is 2-1 when Savinon posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-18-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Christopher Buckley, who went 5-for-6 with four RBI and one double.

Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-19-1. As for Hammond Morton, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-16.

Hammond Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hammond Morton, they will take on Lake Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Governors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
