Soccer Game Preview: Collegiate vs. Mulvane

Collegiate is 2-7 against Mulvane since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Spartans will host the Wildcats. Collegiate has given up an average of 4.8 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Collegiate and McPherson, and McPherson kept the tradition alive. The Spartans came up short against the Bullpups on Tuesday, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Collegiate can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas soccer rankings (they are ranked 90th, while McPherson are ranked 22nd).

Meanwhile, Mulvane had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Thunderbirds get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. Mulvane might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by five goals or more this season.

Mulvane's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those three contests. As for Collegiate, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6-2.
