Baseball Recap: Epping Takes Down Ranked Nute

Epping faced Nute in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Rams. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Logan Abbott made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Abbott was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leo Puglielli, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Chase Kukesh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Epping was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive games.

Epping's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Nute, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Epping will square off against Hinsdale at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Nute, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Concord Christian at 4:00 p.m. on May 4.
