Softball Game Preview: Iota Bulldogs vs. Rosepine Eagles

The Iota Bulldogs will square off against the Rosepine Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Iota will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

In Friday's Canine Competition, Iota came out on top. They put the hurt on Welsh with a sharp 12-1 win on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Saige Cherry tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ainsley Manuel and Chloe Darbonne did most of the damage at the plate: Manuel went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Darbonne scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those five RBI gave Manuel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Bordelon, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Iota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Rosepine unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 14-0 to Live Oak. The match marked the first time this year in which Rosepine was not able to get on the board.

Iota's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Rosepine, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.

Iota beat Rosepine 7-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
