Basketball Recap: Melanie Negrete Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Dayton

There's no place like home for Pasadena, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past the Dayton Broncos with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 41-27. The team accrued 31 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

Pasadena's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Melanie Negrete, who posted eight points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Negrete a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caryme Molina, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 17 points.

Pasadena smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Dayton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Bryanna Boston, who put up four points along with nine boards and three steals. Boston has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keeannie Hill, who had six points and three steals.

Pasadena's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-15. As for Dayton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-17.

Pasadena will head out on the road to face off against Porter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dayton, they will host Crosby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
