Baseball Game Preview: Ewing Blue Devils vs. Hamilton Hornets

The Ewing Blue Devils will challenge the Hamilton Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hamilton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Ewing, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Ewing turned things around against Princeton on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 10-0 shutout. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Blue Devils yet this season.

Ryan Greig made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ewing is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Greig was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ewing let Josh Tirado and Jake Mignogna run wild. Tirado went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Mignogna got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave Tirado a new career-high. Connor Lane was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Ewing was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Hamilton didn't have quite enough to beat Monroe Township on Saturday and fell 5-4.

Hamilton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Ewing, their win bumped their record up to 3-10.

Ewing took their victory against Hamilton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
