No. 3 Clear Creek making waves with 16-game winning streak; Wildcats depend on balanced scoring, 3-point shooting for a 9-0 record in District 24-6A


Clear Creek (League City), holding steady at No. 3 in this week's MaxPreps Texas Top 25, has relied on balanced scoring and accurate 3-point shooting to carve out its current 16-game winning streak.

The Wildcats of coach Wes Bryan are 25-2 and have not lost since early December.

Tyquon Jordan, a 6-2 senior guard, is the leading scorer with a 13.3 average. Jared Evans, a 6-3 senior forward, is next at 11.0. Then comes Rashadre Wilson, a 5-11 junior guard, at 9.6 and 6-2 senior forward Payton Smith at 9.4.

The Wildcats average six 3-pointers per game. Wilson leads in that department with 45 and Smith is close behind with 43.



Clear Creek is 9-0 in a District 24-6A that also contains No. 7 Clear Lake (Houston) with its 24-2 record. Clear Creek defeated Clear Lake 58-54 on Jan. 23. The teams meet again on Feb. 17 in the finale of the regular season.

Clear Creek's losses have come to No. 2 Atascocita (Humble) and No. 8 Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City).

MaxPreps Texas Top 25 Basketball Rankings

1. Plano West 22-2 (1 last week)
D.J. Hogg scored 29 points to help the Wolves remain unbeaten in District 6-6A with a 55-53 victory over Lewisville. The Wolves, now 12-0 in league play, began the week with a 70-64 win over Marcus (Flower Mound).

2. Atascocita (Humble) 26-1 (2)
Junior guards Brandon Loville and Carsen Edwards scored 21 and 18 points respectively in a 66-59 win over The Woodlands. Earlier in the week Edwards had 31 points in an 81-62 downing of College Park (The Woodlands).

3. Clear Creek (League City) 25-2 (3)
Payton Smith had 11 points in a 53-37 thumping of Clear Falls (League City). Earlier in the week, Tyquon Jordan scored 18 in a 65-55 triumph over Clear Brook (Friendswood).

4. Lancaster 22-4 (4)
The Tigers went over the 100-point mark in a pair of wins. Antwon Portley tallied 31 in a 109-77 triumph over Waxahachie. Texas A&M signee Elijah Thomas scored 40 points in a 101-68 rout of Seguin (Arlington).



5. Cedar Hill 21-2 (5)
Jonathan Webb scored 14 and Kealon Clayborne notched 10 in a 55-47 victory over Mansfield.

Dominique Thomas led a balanced attack with 14 points in the Eagles' 72-44 defeat of Grand Prairie.

7. Clear Lake (Houston) 24-2 (7)
Bradley George was the leading scorer in both wins during the week. The 6-1 senior guard had 23 points in a 71-51 rout of Dickinson and followed it up with 18 in a 67-49 triumph over Clear Springs (League City).

8. Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City) 23-2 (8)
Kenneth Busby and Chad Bowie each scored eight points in a 51-41 triumph over Texas City.

9. Beaumont Central 24-2 (9)
Nijal Pearson was one of five Jaguars to score in double figures with 19 in a 78-48 defeat of Goose Creek Memorial (Baytown).

10. Brennan (San Antonio) 24-2 (10)
The Bears improved to 8-0 in District 27-6A with a 92-58 victory over Holmes (San Antonio). Cory Jones led with 30 points while Jordan Murphy and Da'Shawn Key had 19 each. Earlier in the week, the Bears defeated O'Connor (Helotes) 77-60.

11. Richardson 23-4 (11)
Brandon Averette capped a 2-0 week for the Eagles with 22 points in a 68-60 road victory over Horn (Mesquite). Earlier in the week, Richardson downed Lake Highlands (Dallas) 88-52.



12. Clemens (Schertz) 24-4 (13)
Darrell Harris had 19 points and Anthony Gates scored 17 in a 73-68 midweek victory over Judson (Converse). The Buffaloes capped the week with a 92-64 hammering of Steele (Cibolo) behind 30 points from Cayne Edwards.

13. Judson (Converse) 25-5 (12)
The Rockets salvaged a 1-1 week with a 57-53 overtime victory over Wagner (San Antonio). Junior guard Patrick Ramos supplied 17 points and six rebounds. Earlier in the week, the Rockets lost to Clemens 73-68.

14. Ozen (Beaumont) 22-3 (14)
Jordan Hunter scored 22 points to help the Panthers outlast Nederland 47-40 and cap a 2-0 week.

15. Bel Air (El Paso) 25-0 (17)
Jordan Enriquez scored 24 points and backcourt mate Josh Gallegos had 23 in a 65-61 win over Del Valle (El Paso). Earlier in the week the Highlanders routed Eastlake (El Paso) 84-56.

16. Andress (El Paso) 24-1 (18)
Zaccheus Jackson poured in 26 points and Delino Lewis had 13 in a 79-43 takedown of Jefferson (El Paso). Earlier win the week Andress rolled over El Paso 80-38.

17. Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall) 23-0 (19)
Junior guard Camron Talley pumped in 23 points and Nathen Stover had 20 in a 111-65 thrashing of West Mesquite (Mesquite). The Hawks owned a 72-37 halftime lead. Earlier in the week the Hawks thumped North Forney, 81-59.

18. Amarillo 23-3 (16)
The Sandies saw their unbeaten streak in District 2-6A end in a 52-49 loss to Coronado (Lubbock). Michael Dawn led Amarillo with 14 points and Evan Wieck had 13.



19. Liberty (Frisco) 23-2 (20)
Nyk Mason had 15 points and Reggie Chaney scored 13 in a 56-44 win over The Colony. Earlier in the week, the Redhawks defeated Little Elm 76-48.

20. Kimball (Dallas) 20-6 (NR)
The Knights defeated rival South Oak Cliff for the second time in three meetings as Jawun Evans scored 17 in a 69-64 triumph.

21. South Oak Cliff (Dallas) 24-5 (15)
Despite 24 points from James Harrison, the Golden Bears dropped into a tie for the District 13-5A lead after a 69-64 loss to Kimball (Dallas). Earlier in the week, senior guard Christian Massingburg scored 37 points in a 122-48 rout of Samuell (Dallas).

22. Cypress Woods (Cypress) 19-6 (21)
Samir Sehic, a 6-9 senior forward, poured in 25 points in an 84-59 rout of Jersey Village (Houston).

23. Cinco Ranch (Katy) 20-5 (NR)
The Cougars improved to 9-0 in District 19-6A with a 61-53 victory over Katy Taylor. Junior guard J.R. Adams led the way with 15 points.

24. Ellison (Killeen) 21-5 (24)
Shannon Bogues scored 20 points and Shakur Martin pulled down 11 rebounds in a 73-58 victory over rival Killeen.



25. Prestonwood Christian (Plano) 24-4 (25)
Schnider Herard and Djery Baptiste each scored 16 points in a 75-52 win over Liberty Christian (Argyle). Earlier in the week the Lions rolled over Bishop Dunne (Dallas) 83-60.

Dropped out: No. 22 Woodrow Wilson (Dallas), No. 23 Harker Heights.
