Volleyball Recap: Fremont Comes Up Short

After flying high against Aptos last Friday, Fremont came back down to earth. The Fremont Firebirds fell just short of the Irvington Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Firebirds didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 25-18 in the first set.

Fremont took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 16-14.

Despite the loss, Fremont still got an impressive performance from Neel Sharma, who had 20 assists and three digs. The dominant performance gave Sharma a new career-high in assists.

Fremont now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Irvington, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-3.

Coming up, Fremont will challenge Homestead at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Irvington, they will square off against Newark Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Irvington is facing Newark Memorial at the right time seeing as Newark Memorial is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
