Basketball Game Preview: Alcester-Hudson Cubs vs. Akron-Westfield Westerners

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs will take on the Akron-Westfield Westerners at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Alcester-Hudson is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 58 points on Saturday, they were much more limited against Viborg/Hurley on Tuesday. They took a blow against the Cougars, falling 60-19. The defeat continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Akron-Westfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union and fell 79-34. While losing is never fun, the Westerners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Royals are ranked 79th).

Alcester-Hudson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Akron-Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Alcester-Hudson took a serious blow against Akron-Westfield in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 64-32. Can Alcester-Hudson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
