Football Recap: South Lamar Takes a Loss + How To Watch

South Lamar extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They lost 54-33 to the Berry Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Stallions of the 50-18 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

As for Berry, their record now sits at 3-1. Considering they have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Berry's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Smith led the charge by throwing for 238 yards and three TDs while completing 73.7% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. Ayden Lake Norris helped Smith out on the ground, rushing for 134 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.9 yards per carry.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, South Lamar and Sumiton Christian will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 11.5 points per game this season, so the Stallions' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Berry, they will square off against Lamar County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.75 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
