Baseball Recap: Choctaw Central Comes Up Short

Choctaw Central had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it six. They came up short against the West Lauderdale Knights, falling 12-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 on Tuesday.

Choctaw Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Wesley, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Wesley's first of the season.

As for West Lauderdale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On West Lauderdale's side, Cody Pigford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Pigford a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, West Lauderdale got a big performance out of Braydn Warren, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Xavier Thompson was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Choctaw Central will take on Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Lauderdale, they will head out to take on Madison Central at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
