Softball Recap: New Prairie Makes It Seven in a Row on the Road

New Prairie hadn't done well against Penn recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Kingsmen. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Kingsmen on Tuesday, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.

Ava Geyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ella Chelminiak was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Randi Robakowski, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

New Prairie pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Penn, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 16-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Prairie will host Hanover Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Penn, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against South Bend Saint Joseph at 6:30 p.m.
