Baseball Game Preview: Cienega Bobcats vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados

The Cienega Bobcats are taking a road trip to take on the Canyon del Oro Dorados at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cienega has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Cienega is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Flagstaff on Thursday. They lost 12-2 to the Eagles. The Bobcats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Cienega saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was ZAK VASQUEZ, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Red Wolves. That's two games straight that the Dorados have won by just one run.

Canyon del Oro also got a great performance from Dillon Weidner as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

Cienega's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Canyon del Oro, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cienega has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Canyon del Oro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Cienega skirted past Canyon del Oro 5-4 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cienega since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
