Softball Recap: Charleston Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Charleston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Urbana on Monday. The Trojans blew past the Tigers 17-1. The match marked the Trojans' most dominant win of the season so far.

Railyn Cox made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Cox was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Blair Ritchey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Shrader, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Charleston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Charleston's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Urbana, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Charleston has already played their next game, a 6-2 defeat against Mattoon on the 8th. As for Urbana, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-1 victory against Heritage on the 9th.
