Basketball Recap: Pamlico County Comes Up Short

After flying high against East Carteret last Tuesday, Pamlico County came back down to earth. The Pamlico County Hurricanes took a 64-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northside - Pinetown Panthers. The Hurricanes haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Pamlico County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sydney Whitley-Reese dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. Whitley-Reese's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. Bella-Ann Schulz also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Olivia Jane Cahoon was her usual excellent self, putting up 22 points for Northside - Pinetown. Another player making a difference was Madison Scheffler, who en route to 12 points and six boards.

Pamlico County's defeat dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Northside - Pinetown, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 24-1.

Pamlico County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-40 victory against Clover Garden School on the 25th. As for Northside - Pinetown, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-23 win against Rosewood on the 25th.
