Baseball Game Preview: Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves vs. Pine River-Backus Tigers

The Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves will venture away from home to square off against the Pine River-Backus Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Nevis, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wolves put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-3 win on Monday. Considering the Wolves have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Pine River-Backus took on Laporte on Monday. The Tigers walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Wildcats.

Andrew Volk made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Gage Parkin was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Pine River-Backus is undefeated when Parkin posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Owen Dabill also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Pine River-Backus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley's record is now 5-2. As for Pine River-Backus, their record now sits at 5-6.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Pine River-Backus by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
