Basketball Recap: East Carteret Takes a Loss

After flying high against Jones last Friday, East Carteret came back down to earth. The East Carteret Mariners took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pamlico County Hurricanes. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), the Mariners still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why East Carteret lost on Tuesday, don't look at Myles Shelton. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points and seven boards. Thanks to that strong game, Shelton now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Roberson, who posted 11 points.

East Carteret has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points over those games. As for Pamlico County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

East Carteret wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 69-30 defeat against Lejeune on the 5th. As for Pamlico County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-45 win against Jones on the 7th.
