Basketball Recap: Rolla Comes Up Short

Rolla was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Elkhart Wildcats 65-25. The Pirates lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 54-36 score last time.

Elkhart found their leader in freshman Bri Torres, who went 10 for 18 en route to 24 points and seven steals. Torres is becoming a predictor of Elkhart's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 3-10 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Hailee Martinez-Ellis, who posted 12 points.

Rolla's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Elkhart, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Coming up, Rolla will square off against Fellowship Baptist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkhart, they have already played their next contest, a 55-34 defeat against Meade on the 8th.
