Recap: Wausau West Warriors vs. Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Red Raiders
The Wausau West Warriors scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took down Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 87-68. Given Wausau West's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wausau West was led to victory by Griffin Lange and Brett Butalla. Lange scored 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Butalla scored 21 points along with six assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lange has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hager, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Wausau West's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points per game. As for Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12.
Wausau West will head out on the road to face off against D.C. Everest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wausau West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln likes a good challenge.
