Soccer Game Preview: Fort Morgan vs. Weld Central

The Fort Morgan Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Weld Central Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Fort Morgan will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals on Thursday, then bounced right back against Valley on Monday. The Mustangs' defense stepped up to hand the Vikings a 4-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Fort Morgan's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

They hit Valley with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ebony Sanchez (2), Angie Alvarenga, and Elyse Barrera.

Meanwhile, for the first time this season, Weld Central was forced to settle for a draw. Neither they nor Windsor Charter Academy could gain the upper hand on Thursday so the two teams had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The outcome might've been different if Brylie Branch hadn't been hit with a yellow card, which no doubt limited her ability to make aggressive plays down the stretch.

Weld Central's draw makes their record 3-9-1 this season. As for Fort Morgan, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-10-1.

Fort Morgan might still be hurting after the 5-2 defeat they got from Weld Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
