Preview: Washington Township Minutemen vs. Clearview Pioneers
Washington Township is 2-0 against Clearview since September of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Washington Township Minutemen will head out on the road to face off against the Clearview Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Washington Township has four straight wins, Clearview has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Washington Township's game was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 29-22 victory over Shawnee.
Washington Township's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Perez, who picked up 160 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jared Dzierzgowski also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Meanwhile, Clearview took a serious blow against Mainland Regional on Friday, falling 49-20. While losing is never fun, Clearview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Mainland Regional is ranked ninth).
The losing side was boosted by Obrian Brown, who rushed for 248 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Brown was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards.
Washington Township's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Shawnee, Vineland, and Williamstown. Clearview has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Washington Township against Clearview in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 45-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Washington Township since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
