Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Weed Cougars

Mt. Shasta hasn't had much luck against Weed recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mt. Shasta Bears will face off against the Weed Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mt. Shasta is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They really took it to Quincy for the full four quarters, racking up an 89-57 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Weed came tearing into Friday's match with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.1 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Braves 71-47. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Braves are ranked 888th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Weed pushed their record up to 22-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points over those games. As for Mt. Shasta, their win bumped their record up to 18-11.

Mt. Shasta couldn't quite finish off Weed when the teams last played last Friday and fell 59-56. Can Mt. Shasta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
