Baseball Recap: Stroud Beats Wellston for Their Sixth Straight Win

Stroud waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against Wellston as they made off with a 15-5 victory. That's two games straight that Stroud has won by exactly ten runs.

Jerry Cropp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Brayden Davis tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, Cal Shields was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Baker, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Stroud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .553 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Stroud's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wellston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Stroud will venture away from home to face off against Wetumka at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wellston, they will host Santa Fe South at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
