Preview: Casa Grande Gauchos vs. Rancho Cotate Cougars
Casa Grande is 9-1 against Rancho Cotate since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Casa Grande Gauchos will be playing at home against the Rancho Cotate Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Casa Grande was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to Maria Carrillo. Even though they lost, Casa Grande's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 58.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ryan Rice, who scored 20 points along with 7 rebounds. Andon Harris was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Rancho Cotate had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 57-56 victory over Marin Academy.
Adam Pengel was the offensive standout of the contest as he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Decimus Shaw, who scored 10 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Casa Grande and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Rancho Cotate, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Casa Grande came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Cotate when the teams last played back in December of 2022, sneaking past 52-49. Does Casa Grande have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rancho Cotate turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
