Baseball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 8-7-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Shawnee Renegades. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Renegades apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Shawnee, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 2nd.

For Shawnee's part, the result came thanks to Timmy Dougherty's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. Dougherty has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Shawnee's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mak Heino, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Coming up, Eastern will host Highland Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shawnee, they will be taking part in a tournament against Vineland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Fighting Clan have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
