Baseball Recap: Valley Union Takes a Loss

St. David hit Valley Union with a five-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 15-12.

Steven Delacruz put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Valley Union is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Delacruz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Miles Richardson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Angel Caperon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Valley Union's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 8-5. As for St. David, they pushed their record up to 9-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Valley Union will face off against Fort Thomas at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. David, they will head out to square off against Patagonia at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Lobos at the right time seeing as the Lobos are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
