Basketball Game Preview: Pierz Pioneers vs. Pequot Lakes Patriots

Pierz hasn't had much luck against Pequot Lakes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pierz Pioneers will square off against the Pequot Lakes Patriots at 7:15 p.m. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Pierz is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Staples-Motley, posting a 58-31 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Pioneers as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Pequot Lakes was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past Cloquet 75-38. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Lumberjacks are ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pequot Lakes' win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Pierz, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

Pierz might still be hurting after the 65-44 loss they got from Pequot Lakes when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Pierz avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
