Recap: Whitehorse Raiders vs. Green River Pirates
If the Whitehorse Raiders were feeling good off their 72-33 takedown of the Northwest Falcons last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Whitehorse suffered a tough 78-58 defeat at the hands of Green River on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Whitehorse has suffered since December 2, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Whitehorse lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lyric Phillips. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points. That was a full 48.3% of Whitehorse's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Joe, who scored nine points.
Whitehorse now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Green River, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
Whitehorse will head out on the road to face off against Monument Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Monument Valley is ranked 137th, while Whitehorse is ranked 123rd). As for Green River, they will be playing at home against Bryce Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
