The Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 30-29 to Liberty HomeSchool Alliance.

Shawnee Mission Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeydan Umberger, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Maranda Zink was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 steals.

Shawnee Mission Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Liberty HomeSchool Alliance, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
