Pine-Richland took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past the Hempfield Area Spartans 11-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Carson King looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Ben Husted and Thomas Kapanowski did most of the damage at the plate: Husted went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Kapanowski scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Husted has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Heckert, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Pine-Richland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hempfield Area only posted a batting average of .160.
Hempfield Area is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine-Richland will head out to square off against North Allegheny at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hempfield Area, they will take on Stagg at 1:30 p.m. on March 25th.
