Carterville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Benton on Friday. The Lions blew past the Rangers 11-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Carterville let Alex Lyell and Aidan Swallers run wild. Lyell went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Swallers got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Swallers has posted since back in April. Drake Capie was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Carterville's third in a row) raised their record to 16-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Benton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 15 of their last 18 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

Carterville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-2 defeat against Waterloo on the 10th. As for Benton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-9 loss against Harrisburg on the 10th.
