Baseball Recap: Tates Creek Victorious

Tates Creek posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Whitley County Colonels 3-1.

Ethan Ratley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other pitching news, Blake Jones looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Tates Creek's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

Ratley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Jackson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Tates Creek is undefeated when Jackson posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Owen Risalvato also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Tates Creek's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Whitley County, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tates Creek will challenge Boone County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Whitley County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Jackson County at 6:00 p.m.
