Football Recap: Pueblo South Falls to Mead in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Pueblo South unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 42-0 defeat at the hands of the Mead Mavericks on Thursday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Caeden Herrera threw for 81 yards on ten of 19 attempts. Landen Cordova was his top target, picking up 38 receiving yards. On the ground, Chace Hurley rushed for 31 yards.

Ethan Elmore was a one-man wrecking crew For Mead. as he threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes, and also rushed for 79 yards and one score on only six carries. The dominant performance also gave Elmore a new career-high in passer rating (152.1). Another player making a difference was Eli Davis, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo South is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Falcon at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Mead, they will head out to take on Frederick at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
