Football Recap: Ryder Miller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Canyon View over Cedar

While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Canyon View was not quite Cedar's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost 35-14 to the Reds. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Reds are ranked 18th).

Canyon View lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ryder Miller, who rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 50 yards and one TD. He has become a key player for Canyon View: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. The Falcons also got a significant boost from Camden Sheridan, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 110 yards.

Cedar's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Everett Kelling, who threw for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 65 yards. Kelling showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 50 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Braxton Demille, who rushed for 89 yards and one score.

This is the second loss in a row for Canyon View and nudges their season record down to 4-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Juab (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 92.9% over those games). As for Cedar, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Canyon View didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 31-14 win against Richfield on the 10th. As for Cedar, they have also already played their next matchup, a 41-35 victory against Juab on the 10th.
