Softball Recap: St. Joseph Comes Up Short

St. Joseph had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it six. They came up short against the Serra Catholic Eagles, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

As for Serra Catholic, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Serra Catholic's part, Giana Foster made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Foster a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Alonna Morton was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Bailee Dayton was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph will welcome Leechburg at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Serra Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
