Softball Recap: Southeastern Comes Up Short

Southeastern dropped down to 19-8 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since April 15th.

Gracie Brown made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Skaggs, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for Lynchburg-Clay, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Lynchburg-Clay's side, Noel Barnhill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. Barnhill has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sadie Kuipers was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Southeastern and Lynchburg-Clay are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Panthers will face off against North Adams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Green Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Southeastern's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they will take on Portsmouth West at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Senators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.8 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
