Basketball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Nelson County and Floyd County squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Nelson County had to settle for second. They fell to the Floyd County Buffaloes 73-68. The Governors' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Several Governors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Giles, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards. Giles is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 16 games he's played. Aiden Carter was another key player, going 5-for-10 en route to 16 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Nelson County's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Floyd County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Nelson County and Floyd County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Nelson County will head out on the road to square off against Graham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nelson County has given up an average of 56.3 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. As for Floyd County, they will be playing at home against Virginia High at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Floyd County has won ten straight at home, while Virginia High won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
