Softball Recap: Charleston Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Charleston dropped their record down to 12-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell 5-1 to the Effingham Hearts. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Hearts when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Charleston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Railyn Cox, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

As for Effingham, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Effingham's side, Saige Althoff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Althoff has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mya Harvey was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Natalie Armstrong was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

While Charleston had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
