Softball Game Preview: Blaine Borderites vs. Lynden Lions

Blaine hasn't had much luck against Lynden recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Borderites will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Blaine turned things around against Meridian on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Borderites, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Shaylie Daniels and Mesa Puls were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Daniels didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Puls pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Daniels went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Puls went 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Courtney Roff, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Maddi Musto also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Blaine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lynden got the win against Mt. Baker on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-4. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Mountaineers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Blaine's record now sits at 4-5. As for Lynden, their record is now 8-5.

Blaine beat Lynden 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Borderites repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
