Softball Recap: Newport Cubs vs. Stayton Eagles
Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 13-1 to the Stayton Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 last Monday.
Newport saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivy Ruddiman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Newport's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Stayton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport will head out to square off against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.33 runs per game on average), something the Cubs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Stayton, they will challenge Philomath at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
