Softball Preview: Deer Valley Wolverines vs. Liberty Lions
Deer Valley is 0-10 against Liberty since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Deer Valley Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Liberty Lions at 4:00 p.m.
Sadly, Deer Valley is still looking for their first win of the season after 11 games. Their tough 17-7 loss to Miramonte on Monday might stick with them for a while. One positive for Deer Valley, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Daejah Matier made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Rosalyn Zermeno was another key contributor, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Meanwhile, Liberty waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 13-0 shutout. Considering Liberty has won four contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kate Skinner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Skinner has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Skinner was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run and six RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Tuttle, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jewel Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with a home run.
