Basketball Recap: St. Thomas Catholic Takes a Loss

St. Thomas Catholic lost against Second Baptist back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The St. Thomas Catholic Eagles lost 79-59 to the Second Baptist Eagles. While losing is never fun, St. Thomas Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while Second Baptist is ranked 39th).

Despite the loss, St. Thomas Catholic still got an impressive performance from Evan Levy, who posted 21 points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Kimble, who had 14 points and five assists.

It was another big night for Reese Alston, who went 9 of 12 on his way to 27 points and seven assists for Second Baptist. Alston has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 13 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shia Francis, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.

St. Thomas Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Second Baptist, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

St. Thomas Catholic will head out to face off against Nolan Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Thomas Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season. As for Second Baptist, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-52 win against Marian on the 28th.
