Baseball Game Preview: Apollo Eagles vs. Owensboro Red Devils

The Apollo Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Owensboro Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Apollo's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Owensboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Friday, Apollo beat Warren East 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Carter Kimmel looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Apollo's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ross Milburn, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Grayson Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Owensboro hadn't done well against Owensboro Catholic recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red Devils put the hurt on the Aces with a sharp 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Owensboro has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Apollo, their record now sits at 14-7.

Apollo suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Owensboro in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
