Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ganado). They put the hurt on the Valley Pirates with a sharp 21-1 victory on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Shawntaya Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That one hit allowed gave her a new career-low. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tierra Meyers, who scored three runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Shelby Lee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ganado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley only posted an OBP of .107.
Ganado's record is now 2-7.
Looking ahead, Ganado will be playing at home against Monument Valley at 1:00 p.m. on March 24th. As for Valley, they will head out on the road to take on Zuni at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th.
