Softball Game Preview: Oshkosh North Spartans vs. Fond du Lac Cardinals

The Oshkosh North Spartans will square off against the Fond du Lac Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Oshkosh North couldn't beat Appleton East on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the first inning. The Spartans took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Emma Niemczyk made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Fabiano, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Kimberly hit Fond du Lac with a seven-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cardinals came up short against the Papermakers, falling 12-6.

Reghan Ziegler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Birschbach, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Oshkosh North's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Fond du Lac, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Oshkosh North was able to grind out a solid victory over Fond du Lac in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 10-7. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
