Baseball Recap: Beloit Memorial Comes Up Short

Beloit Memorial extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-4 in the process. They fell 11-8 to the Wilmot Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on Wednesday.

Owen West made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Braylen Huebbe, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Wilmot, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Wilmot's side, Nolan Sanew looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sanew has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Preston Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ryan Watson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Beloit Memorial wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-0 loss against Elkhorn on the 21st. As for Wilmot, they will venture away from home to square off against Union Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
